What is Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy?

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is a talking therapy for alleviating people’s suffering. People may experience emotions that they do not understand or they may find themselves acting in ways that are detrimental to their wellbeing.

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy understands that the reasons for these emotions and for these detrimental ways of being may be unconscious. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy aims to make these reasons conscious and, by doing so, to enable people to gain a greater sense of autonomy and freedom in how they live their lives.

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy takes place at a regular time and in a confidential setting. It can be either long-term or short-term, depending on the difficulties that a person is experiencing.
